In short
- Students don’t make accounts.
- First name and last initial only.
- We never keep recordings.
What we collect
Teachers: your name and email address from Google sign-in, plus the school details you enter (school name, city, grades taught).
Classes: class names and the student display names you type in.
Student information
Students do not make accounts and never give us an email address. A teacher enters each student as a first name and last initial.
For each reading we keep the result: the score, which words were read correctly or missed, and a text transcript of what was heard. Teachers use this to see progress.
Audio recordings
When a student reads, the recording is sent to speech-recognition services to be checked, and then thrown away. We do not store recordings.
How we use information
To run the app: show readings, check reading, show results to the teacher, and keep usage within plan limits.
To improve the app, for example finding words the checker often gets wrong. We never sell personal information and never use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers we need to run Mila Tova: Google Cloud (hosting, database, speech recognition), OpenAI (speech recognition) and Stripe (payments, for Paid teachers).
They process data on our behalf and may not use it for their own purposes.
Keeping data safe
Data is stored on Google Cloud, encrypted in transit and at rest. Only the teacher who created a class can see its results.
Your choices
Teachers can edit or remove students and classes in the app. To delete your account and all class data, or to ask what we hold, email hello@milatova.org.
Schools and parents can contact us with questions about a student’s data at the same address.
